The backdrop was a stunning view of New Haven Harbor and the Long Island Sound on a day mild enough to ensure that the open air group photo for Vancord’s nearly 60 attending staffers would be relatively painless (see above the header). Inside the boathouse, an engaging succession of talks from Vancord’s leadership continued, recounting a red-letter 2024 and big plans for 2025.
Led by Vancord CEO Michael Grande, the morning moved seamlessly through a recap of the past year defining some major wins for the company in a variety of areas, including its partnership with Microsoft Azure furthering a cloud-first initiative, its recognition by longstanding New York-based nonprofit MercyFirst as their Angel of Hope Corporate Honoree and wrapping 2024 with inclusions in Channel Future’s MSP501 and CRN’s MSP500 and Security 100 lists.
Grande drove home the company’s 5 Core Values of: Affirmation, Brilliance, Creativity, Opportunity and Virtue, and awarded particular Vancord employees who best exemplified each value throughout 2024. Yet, an earned commendatory tone was extolled to all in the room for continuing to provide high service and project execution to the company’s many clients in manufacturing, higher education, K-12 schools, and other important regional businesses and organizations- a level of service that resulted in 100% client retention for 2024. Grande invoked Vancord’s vision statement in addressing the company’s goals for 2025, “We are global defenders in a world where good wins.”
Vancord’s employee culture is a diverse and inclusive talent pool from all walks of life and from all over the globe. It is a unique ecosystem that promotes good will, palpable family spirit and even humor to ensure that a job that is often very challenging, is done right. And while its external advocacy has been documented, the company’s equal attention on internal support is what keeps its people in the room, so to speak. Case in point, two active service employees took a moment to honor Grande and Vancord’s executive staff with the presentation of the 2024 Patriotic Employer Award from the Office of the Secretary of Defense, an expression of gratitude from our nation’s military for the Company’s consistent support of the Guard and Reserve.
It’s not surprising. That afternoon, a number of the long standing speakers recalled Vancord’s early days when a few employees shared a small, loud office space above a local West Haven landscape supply business. Founded in 2005 by Jeff Grande and Michael Paone, (VPs of Business Development) the outfit- even back then- harnessed an enduring mission to manage your technology, defend your company and respond to cyber threats. The first full time hire came in 2008 and now Vancord can point to 60+ employees and 2 sizable Connecticut locations. In fact, 3 of Vancord’s initial 4 first time hires are still working with the company today. Says Jeff Grande, “I’d say the key to our success has been our people. Hard work, luck, and flexibility are certainly key ingredients; but the right team to execute matters most. This is especially true in the technology sector, good people = success.”
“Twenty years ago, we started this company with a simple belief—treat our customers like family, understand their challenges, and solve them together,” adds Mike Paone. “From bootstrapping in a small upstairs office to growing a team of over 60, that commitment has never changed. Our success comes from staying true to those values and building lasting relationships, both with our customers and our incredible team.”
